Project: Powerpunk takes place in the near future; where the world stands at a crossroads. One path leads to prosperity, the other to dystopia. Government, Organized crime, and Corporations are engaged in a shadow war stalemate. They've divided the world as best they can and now their conflict is becoming visible to the public. Individuals with superpowers have emerged, and the three factions plan to use them to break the long-standing draw. Neither the groups fighting to control them nor these people know how they've gained these powers. However, the 3 groups plan to exploit them regardless. You play as one of these empowered people, but the question is; will the end of the shadow war be a step into a new grand age or the last great step towards oblivion.

But the history is different.
While, ultimately, the story takes place over the whole world, we start our story off in New York. It's our home, where we grew up. We felt most comfortable taking liberties with it.
Each Borough is a little different. Home to a different feel. There are five in all:

The Bronx is in the hands of Fletcher & Welch armed forces. This UK based PMC has an answer to the recent mayhem that has taken grip of the northern borough, extreme Non-lethal Force. This was their answer to crime in the UK and in the words of the their CEO "if it’s good enough for her majesty's kingdom, it will be good enough for a peninsula a fraction of the size". F&W underestimated The Bronx, there rages a decade long civil war between Thirteen criminal warlords; these are the ex-generals of Ramesses, the abdicated Underworld Shogun of the Silk streets.
Queens is slowly being dragged into tomorrow by the Eden foundation and its affiliates. Foundation Funds or FF points (known as forbidden fruit) is the currency Eden is aggressively marketing to all residents and businesses in Queens. Thanks to the corporate restrictions lifted during the cold war, Queens has become a corporate playground with the people fighting to have their human rights outweigh Eden's corporate rights.
In Brooklyn information is power, and silence speaks volumes. “I know something you don't know, I got something to tell you”; the ebb and flow of the most dangerous deals made in this borough. Info and Data brokers, overnight startups, the crypto-stock market, wise guys, double thinkers, and entrepreneurs stomp the pavement and search for the next leg up.
Staten Island the prototype solution to overpopulation, active but still under construction, Megastructure Zero. When completed the structure will take up half the island and stand more than 30 stories tall. Residents, offices, factory space, parks, malls, supermarkets, stores of all kinds, an indoor harbor, and much more will be within reach once the construction has completed.

Exim are the bad idea that everyone wants. Power incarnate. The ability to change and influence the world around you. To steamroll through all of the things that you felt were in your way.
If you've ever sat down and thought about all of the weight on your shoulders, and thought about lifting all of that off of you, this is what an Exim is. A single person with the ability to lift. To push around, change, manipulate, destroy, and build on the scale of the other superpowers of the world: large groups of people.

- Protean : Shapeshifters, shaman. Complete control of their body. Affinity with animals.
- Cerbos : They're very in their heads. Mental powers. Mind control. Telepathy. Telekinesis. This doesn't mean that they can't get physical, but their abilities tend to involve their minds.
- Quark : Control of energy. Mastery of the terrestrial.
- Kin : Control of energy. Mastery over the celestial.
- Amalgams: Capable of all. Master of none. Extremely dangerous.
